The mills depicted in this image are likely those from Henry Caldwell's Lauzon seigniory in Lauzon, Quebec. Several architectural structures are depicted in the middleground of the work. They were erected along the edge of Etchemin river. Several trees are depicted throughout the composition and those near the water are reflected in it., Henry Caldwell (c.1735-1810) was the agent and lesee for the seigniory of Lauzon in 1774. He left this property to his son, Sir John Caldwell (1775-1842). The Caldwell Mills are mentioned in Quebec and Its Environs; being a Pictureque Guide to the Stranger, pp.15-16. The passage reads "At the embouchure of the Etchemin, is a large causeway, also built by the same gentleman [Sir John Caldwell] which leads to his mills, an establishment well worthy the inspection of the traveller.", Probably the same artist as W123a, W126.
