Portrait en buste d'un jeune garçon noir. Lady Falkland était à Halifax pendant le mandat de son époux, qui était gouverneur de la Nouvelle-Écosse de 1840 à 1846. Deux autres oeuvres de McKie (1990-207-31X et -33X) portent l'inscription « achetée par lady Falkland » [Traduction]. McKie a exposé quatre oeuvres à l'exposition du Halifax Mechanics Institute, au collège Dalhousie, en septembre 1848., La Nouvelle-Écosse comptait une population noire relativement élevée : environ 3000 Noirs y ont immigré pendant et après la Révolution américaine, et 2000 après la guerre de 1812.
