Item est un portrait de Demasduit (Mary March ; Shendoreth ; Waunathoake) par Lady Henrietta Martha Hamilton. Le mari de Demasduit a été tué lorsqu'il a tenté d'échapper aux ravisseurs de sa femme et leur bébé a péri. Demasduit est morte de la tuberculose en 1820. Elle était l'un des derniers membres survivants de la tribu maintenant disparue des Béothuks de Terre-Neuve.

Note on the state of conservation:

Février 1977 - l'oeuvre semble en bon état. L'ivoire a gauchi parc qu'un des côtés de la miniature a été collé au support. Il y a des tachetures en surface., Août 1977 - le cadre a été restauré à l'ICC, comparer C-087697 (avant) et C-092599 (après)., Février 1977 - l'oeuvre est colléee sur du carton et placée dans un cadre de bois doré., Août 1977 - cadre restauré; il est maintenant noir au lieu d'être doré (voir l'histoire de sa restauration).

Custodial history:

Harold L. Medjuck (vendu par), Halifax, Nova Scotia. La miniature été autrefois dans la possession du famille Rennie (St. John's Newfoundland).
