View of the town and harbour of Pictou, off the Northumberland Strait. There is a central cluster of houses on the right, with a church steeple visible behind trees. On the left side there is another church and a few houses., Attributed to Lady Falkland who lived in Halifax when her husband, Lucius Bentinck Cary, was governor of Nova Scotia (1840-46). Augusta (from the inscription) would be Augusta Haliburton. Lord F might be Lord Fox, who was married to Lady Falkland's sister Mary and living in Halifax at the time., Augusta Louise Neville (ca. 1823-1891) was a daughter of T. C. Haliburton who later married A. F. Haliburton. Through Fox, Haliburton cultivated a friendship with Lord Falkland that helped him gain his Supreme Court posting. The Haliburtons and the Falklands are recorded travelling about the province together in the Novascotian (Sept. 1, 1845) and the New York Albion (Sept. 14, 1844)., The secondary support of this work is similar to 1990-207-73X, -90X, -99X, and -102X. All support Nova Scotian scenes attributed to Lady Falkland. Some have jagged left edges, suggesting that they were cut out of another album to be placed loose in this one., Lady Falkland visited Pictou for the first time in 1844 according to an address reprinted in the Novascotian (August 19, 1844)., There is a watercolour sketch of the town of Pictou on the verso of this work.
