Pencil sketch, with trees as the main subject. A figure group sits under one tree, possibly three adults and two children. Burgess was appointed Landscape Painter to Lady Falkland's father, William IV, in 1826. He published a book on the appearance of trees in 1827., As a natural daughter, Falkland could not commission artists of the first rank at court. However, she was able to draw on artists with some court connections, particularly with her father. These include Ziegler, Burgess, and Hayter.
