There are 24 leaves in the sketchbook. The dates on the sketches indicate that Napier visited England in 1867 and returned to Canada by 1869 and was there in 1870. According to information he left for England in 1870., There were five unbound pages (acc. no. 1974-51-43, 45, 53, 55 & 58). The binding of the sketchbook is broken. In most cases the drawings are smudged, in particular 1974-51-66)., Formerly the property of Alexander Napier Chinnery-Haldene, 'Gleneagles', Perthshire, Scotland (grandson of the artist).
