This work (1974-51-25R) is the right-hand sheet in a 2-part image of Red Castle at Hawkstone in Shropshire England. The left-hand image is 1974-51-24, There are 29 leaves in the sketchbook which is bound in a hardcover. The sketchbook covers 1864, the year Napier left Canada to take a position in East Prussia Southern Railway. From the sketches it can be determined that Napier was in Québec from January to February; in Toronto for the early part of March; around New York City by the end of March from where he probably sailed for Europe; by mid-April he was sailing along the southern coast of Ireland and visiting the midlands of England; and finally by November he is in Poland and Prussia. There are three drawings of Napier by Miss Campbell done in Toronto (acc. no. 1974-51-33, 34 & 35)., There were three unbound pages (1974-51-10, 11 & 38). The binding of the sketchbook was broken. In most cases the drawings were smudged and soiled and the edges of the pages were discoloured., Formerly the property of Alexander Napier Chinnery-Halene, 'Gleneagles', Perth shire, Scotland (grandson of the artist)., Negative No. p. 28 : C-035238 ; P. 29 : C-035265
