A bronze medal sculptured for the Paris Mint by Swedish-French Medallist, Léo Holmgren. The medal commemorates Swedish inventor, chemist, and engineer, Alfred Nobel (1833-1896). Nobel is best known for his invention of dynamite, as well as the awards given out annually for eminance in physical science, chemistry, medicine, and literature, known as the Nobel Prize(s). There is also a fifth prize given to a person in society that renders a great service to all of humanity, known as the Nobel Peace Prize.

The obverse side of the medal displays a bust of Nobel and is engraved with his name, as well as his date of birth and date of death.

The reverse side of the medal is engraved with images relating to the five prizes posthumously named after him, known as the Nobel Prizes: Medicine (represented by a mortar bowl and snake, also known as a Caduceus, top left); Physics (bottom left); Chemistry (represented by beakers and test tubes, bottom right); Literature (represented by a lyre and sheets of paper, top right); and Peace (represented by a dove and the word "peace," top center).
