"My Life: A Record of Events and the Experiences of John Henry Chatterton" was written from rough diaries kept at the time and from his letters home, which have not survived. The journal has been prepared in three volumes. Volume one, 1835-1854, 270 pages relates to his childhood and his job in his stepfather's wine and spirit business. It also deals with his travel to Australia. Volume two, 1854-1855, 269 pages, relates to his travel to Australia, his trip home to England and his trip to Canada. Volume three, 1857-1858, 232 pages, relates solely to his travels in Canada. Topics include descriptions of major cities and towns, native customs and ceremonies, fishing, attendance at various churches, a Canadian Christmas, as well as a description of his voyage home. This material is located on microfilm reel A-1960.
