This item is a paperweight distributed by L.G. Beaubien et Cie, a financial firm based in Montreal. The paperweight features restrikes of the Kebeca Liberati medal (two medals are mounted on a brass paperweight, one showing the obverse; the other showing the reverse.) The Kebeca Liberata medal, originally struck in 1690, celebrates the French victory over English forces at the Battle of Quebec. Obverse consists of a right-facing bust of King Louis XIV with long, flowing hair. The text translates as: "Louis XIV, the Most Christian King." The reverse of the medal features a robed female figure who is seated on a rock. She holds a shield adorned with fleur de lys and behind her are several banners, including one captured from the English. There is a beaver at her feet, and the river god, St. Lawrence, watches from the water to her right. The text translates as: "French victorious in the New World: Quebec liberated, 1690." This paperweight was likely made in the first part of the 20th century (circa 1910-1930).
