A watercolour depiction of people dancing in an interior setting. Four couples are dancing in the centre of the composition while others in the room are either sitting or standing and watching the dancers. In the foreground on the left hand side is a young woman seated on a bench surrounded by three children., The room has three large windows and two shelves lined with bowls, bottles and a kettle; a chandelier with four candles hangs from the ceiling., This watercolour has a similar composition to an aquatint by Heriot that was published in his Travels Through the Canadas, 1807; the composition of the watercolour is reversed and there are some other visual differences. The National Archives holds copies of the aquatint (note: the print is also known as Canadian Minuets)., There is some debate as to whether this image was executed by Heriot himself or if it is a naïve copy after him., Sotheby's inventory P720 (W720).
