There are several inscriptions with the work dating it both March, 1822 and 1832. The one on the verso of the backing card laid down to the ivory states the date is March, 1822, this perhaps being the correct one. Royal Academy records list Hayter's final year as an exhibitor as 1832. There is evidence of previous restoration of the paint surface, and some areas are covered with thick yellow varnish. The ivory is cracked. The frame is gold-tone wooden frame, with scrolling and glazing recto and verso. Colour transparency: recto ivory support., Richard Francis Foote (flourishing 1838-1844)., May 1979 - the miniature is cracked along left edge and from u.r. to c.r. It has been repainted in oil.
