William Pitt Amherst was the brother of Elizabeth Frances Hale and nephew of Sir Jeffery Amherst. The second barony of Amherst devolved on him at his uncle's death in 1797. In 1800 he married Sarah Hickman. He was Governor-General of India, and his appointment as Governor-General of Canada in 1835 was annulled by a change in government. Encasement: metal locket set into oval fabric and metal frame; locket was designed to be worn as a bracelet [see miniature binder for full description]., Colour transparency: in locket, framed., The miniature is in a locket designed to be worn as a bracelet. The locket is mounted in an oval frame. The sitter may be William Pitt Amherst., February 1979 - the miniature appears to be in good condition.
