The date and attribution to Roch are based on research and expert opinion., Colour transparency: recto in frame., Born in Portsoy, Scotland, Eweretta Jane Richardson (1774-1808) was the half-sister of John Richardson, a prominent Montreal businessman and politician. In 1804, she married Alexander Auldjo, in Fordyce near Portsoy and then immigrated to Canada. This miniature was painted at Bath where the artist lived, before she left for Canada. This portrait is attributed to Sampson Towgood Roch(e), an Irish-born miniaturist who is thought to have painted the portrait at Bath, England. Eweretta Jane Richardson died in childbirth in 1808.

The miniature was acquired at auction. It is from Auldjo fonds, which were part of the Graham Tower estate.
