Early surveying techniques used by Estcourt and Smith in creating the Canadian and American border between New Brunswick and Maine. The surveyers are using long poles and other equipment to get accurate measurements., This sketchbook was done between 1843 and 1847 while Estcourt was surveying the border between New Brunswick and Maine.
