Colour Transparency: recto in frame, Although her exact identity is unknown, the sitter in this portrait was a member of the Field family, early settlers of Cobourg, Ontario. According to a history of the town, the first reprentatives of Cobourg's prominent families arrived between 1830 and 1850. A man named John Field established a business in 1832 which later employed his sons.
