Support x cmScope and content:When this item was purchased it was accompanied by a modern inscription on the mount "Drawn by A.M. Skene/from Ross's 1818 Expedition to the Artic (sic)". However, a comparison with the A.M. Skene sketchbook, folio 44r, (Acc.no.:1988-43-44r) reveals that it is a copy, made either during the voyage itself, or later from the engraving which was published in John Ross "Voyage of discovery..."
