Interview of Carl Westhaver and Doug Dockrill about early radio in Canada and Halifax radio station CHNS. They talk about: the history of CHNS; the Halifax Radio Listeners' Club; Hank Snow; the CBC Dominion Network; Cec Landry; John Fisher; Bob Oxley; Don Tremaine; radio drama in the late 1930s and early 1940s; Hugh Mills; the types of programming done in the early days of radio such as broadcsts of church services and school functions; broadcasting equipment; the use of CHNS equipment by the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission to cover the Moose River Mine disaster; the affiliation with the CBC; William Borrett and his radio program TALES TOLD UNDER THE OLD TOWN CLOCK; J. Frank Willis; live broadcasts; coverage of the 1956 Springhill Mine disaster; the production by CHNS of the first stereo broadcast in the area, using separate Am and FM signals; the explosion of an ammunition dump and barge in Halifax in 1945; and coverage of the reaction in Halifax to the end of the Second World War.
