Bill Galloway hosts this tenth episode of GALLOWAY'S GALLERY. Three films, shot in black and white are featured. The first, entitled JOHNNY AT THE FAIR was made by the National Film Board in 1947 as part of the CANADA CARRIES ON series. Shot in Toronto, the film shows a young boy, named Johnny, who is at the Canadian National Exhibition for the first time. He becomes separated from his parents and meets William Lyon Mackenzie King (who is opening the CNE). Johnny also meets the famous figure skater Barbara Ann Scott. Eventually he is reunited with his parents and his adventures end. BEHIND THE LINES, made in 1940, deals with a day in the life of the Vancouver Daily Province newspaper. The film illustrates how a news event, such as a fire, gets into print. We see the event occur, the story being written, edited, headlined, physically put into print and delivered. A clip from SPOTLIGHT NUMBER ONE, a CANADIAN CAMEO series film produced by Associated Screen News in 1950. This clip featured footage of a car going up Switchbank Mountain in Yo Ho National Park in the Rockies. The man driving the car is Gordon Sparling, who directed many of the films produced by ASN. <30mn>
