In this radio broadcast, a feature on THE BRITISH ELECTION, 1959. CBC news brings an objective look at the General Election in Britain of the following day - a look at the personalities and candidates. "the TV election". Harold MacMillan makes a quip about his journey to Moscow, (it's quite fashionable now (laughter). Everybody's doing it now... Aneurin Bevan. The difficulty about the Tories is not that they're individually bad people - the difficulty about them is that they haven't grown up ... (laughter). A heckler interrupts his lamenting their Public School background (But I'm not saying that some don't' escape!...) Aneurin Bevan referring to Hugh Gaitskell. Winston Churchill at Hustling in Woodford. Some of them (Socialists) regard private enterprise as if it were a predatory tiger to be shot; others look upon it as a cow they can milk (laughter)...Only a few see it for what it really is - a strong and willing horse that pulls the cart along. Charles Taylor on the racial question in Notting Hill, with excerpt of speech by Sir Oswald Mosley - New Union Movement) for sending coloured people back. Taylor interviews a citizen on why he's for Mosley (objects to lowering of standards brought about by entry of coloured people). Charles Taylor in Hampstead, where one of the labour candidates is a Negro (from Trinidad). Dr. David Pitt interviews the candidate in the demonstration by racial agitators. Dick Lillicoe records Sir Beverley Baxter on 'why you should vote Conservative'. George Bridge (Liberal) talks about how it feels to run against Sir Beverley Baxter. John Chapman (Labour) for Birmingham Northfield, talks of his chance of victory and Sir Beverley Baxter as a politician. Beverley Baxter on how it is to run in the Tory stronghold. Edwin Leather (known as Ted Leather), M.P. Somerset since 1950, talks on how he came into politics in England, and how British politics differ from those in Canada. Dick Lilicoe presents collection of 'man in the street' views.
