The first awards dinner of the Canadian Council of Authors and Artists (CCAA) and the tenth anniversary celebration of the Association of Canadian Radio Artists (ACRA) at the King Edward Hotel, Toronto.~Pierre Berton, as toastmaster, expresses his optimism for Canada's artistic future.~Bernard Cowan, President, Toronto local of ACRA, speaks of the need for recognition of Canadian artists.~A Davidson Dunton, Chairman, Board of Governors, CBC, gives best anniversary wishes to ACRA in a broadcast from Winnipeg and refers to the interdependence between artists and the CBC.~Bernard Hogue, President, CCAA, expresses best wishes to ACRA in English and French.~Harry Boyle, Ontario Director of Programs, CBC, and principal speaker at this dinner, speaks about the value of radio as a means of communicating Canadian culture to isolated parts of the country; praises radio drama for contributing to a greater consciousness of theatre in Canada; and expresses his hope for an excellent future in Canadian television.~Neil LeRoy, Vice President of ACRA and chairman of the awards committee of the CCAA, inaugurates the awards presentation and gives a witty description of the nature of the artist.~Mrs. Maurice Rosenfeld presents the Rosenfeld awad for most promising newcomer in radio to Kate Reid (Kate Reid is head briefly).~Jane Mallett, President, ACRA's Benevolent Fund, presents the S.W. Caldwell award for outstanding performance in television to Shirley Harmer (she mispronounces Harmer's name).~Harry Boyle presents the Ben Russ citation to Bernard Hogue for his contribution to the welfare of fellow artists. <30mn>
