Newsreel footage shot in Pickering, Ontario of the Ajax shell plant transformed into a division of the University of Toronto to accommodate 1500 veterans who are going back to school. An increase in the enrollment at the University of Toronto requires an expansion of its facilities. Footage shows: the cordite room, when Ajax was a war factory, dissolving into a shot of the same room transformed into a classroom; part of the water distillation plant; a TNT box used for packing chemical bottles; a photo of a room where shell inspection took place when the building was a factory, adn the same room divided into classrooms; a tutorial classroom; Dean C.R. Young of the Ajax Division of the Engineering Faculty; an army officer who is studying engineering; air force veterans in their sleeping quarters, one of whom was a Mosquito pilot who won many decorations; close-up of the vets in their quarters; vets playing a game of cards; the students, mostly men back from military service, lined up to enter a building for a lecture; large buses to transport the students to the various classrooms; a bus loaded with students, arriving at one of the classroom buildings; rear shot showing students entering the building; various shots of buildings occupied by the students, buildings that during the Second World War were used for the manufacture of war materials; female students arriving to register in the engineering course; a female student who brings her skis along; a male student with pin-ups in his room; other male students check out the pin-ups on the wall; group shot of cheerful students; longshot of students lined up to get on the bus which will transport them to their classrooms; and close-up of students.
