Pearson retraces the years 1930 to 1939 that led up to World War II. He comments on his own initial reluctance to participate in another European war, but his change of attitude when in 1937 he "realized the world was up against Hitler". The events leading up to the war mentioned are: the Italian invasion of Ethiopia and the League of Nations' failure to instill sanctions against Italy; the determination of William Lyon Mackenzie King to enter the war as a united nation and not as part of the British Empire; the uprising of Hitler and the Nazies in Germany; the agreement between British Prime Minister Chamberlain and Hitler to stay at peace that was later betrayed by Germany; Germany's invasion of Czechoslovakia; and finally, the outbreak of war and an effort to stop the spread of Naziesm.~The montage of stills begins this program and the following film footage throughout the program includes: the Ethiopian Campaign of Mussolini; Italians cheering Mussolini; the Nurenburg rally; the movement forward of the Nazis; and the German invasion of Czechoslovakia. <27mn 55s>
