In this program, Pearson talks about his introduction to political life in Ottawa as First Secretary in the fledgling Department of External Affairs. He finds himself a participating observer in events as a Royal Commission inquiry into price spreads and mass buying, the Diamond Jubilee, the League of Nations debate on Italy's aggression against Ethiopia, and the coronation of King George VI. Pearson then moved from Ottawa to London as First Secretary of the High Commissioner under Vincent Massey and Deputy High Commissioner Georges Vanier.~Stills of the period include: O.D. Skelton of External Affairs; William Lyon Mackenzie King; Vincent Massey; Georges Vanier, Deputy High Commissioner, Exterior Affairs; and High Commissioner Ferguson. Film footage shows: the Centre Block of the Parliament Buildings; dust storms on the prairies; the League of Nations concerning the Ethiopian situation; and the coronation of King George VI. <27mn 55s>
