Letter of Admiral John Campbe ll, Governor of Newfoundland, to M. le barondel'Espérance, French Governor at the Isles of St. Pierre & Mique lon. He has been inform of the French request to prolonge the time delay for permetting them to cut wood on the Bay of Despair. Since the definitive peace treaty (Treaty of Versailles) exludes the French from all intercourse with Newfoundland, except within the limits assigned to them for fishery, they consequently cannot be allowed to cut wood upon any other part of the island.
