Daguerreotype (1/6 plate) of Canadian mother and child - mother, freckled, with ringlets, smiles; child is serious in olive-colored dress. Daguerreotype by David N. Preston.
original seals preserved with mat signed D. Preston/Hamilton.
Full case with repaired spine. Tarnish at edge, bubble in glass above child's head..
David N. Preston operated in Hamilton, Ont. between 1852-1858. In 1857 he took a daguerreotype and ambrotype of the Desjardins RR bridge disaster
