Description:

Eily O'Connor (The Colleen Bawn), daughter of a peasant, falls in love and secretly marries Hardress Cregan, a nobleman. But years later, Hardress is forced to marry his heiress cousin, Anne Chute, in order for his mother to pay off the land's mortgage with the dowry. His servant, Danny, decides on his own to be rid of Eily and, after bringing her to a secluded spot, he throws her into a lake and is immediately shot by Eily's previous suitor, Myles, who witnessed the act. Myles saves Eily and keeps her in hiding until the marriage, but she is persuaded to return in order to prevent Cregan's upcoming marriage to his cousin, as well as to save him from the murder charges he would have faced pursuant to her disappearance. <34mn 28s>

1. The running time is based on the measured length of the archives' master print calculated at 18 fps.~2. Shot on location in County Kerry, on the Kalem company's second trip to Ireland. Their stay in Ireland lasted from about June 10 to September 27, 1911.~3. When this film was re-released in 1914, the director Sidney Olcott (b. 1872-1949) and the writer Gene Gauntier (b. 1885-1966) no longer worked for Kalem. The company removed their names from the credits.~4. Director Sidney Olcott (1872-1949) was born in Toronto, Ontario. ~5. Sidney Alcott, the creator of this film, died in 1949 - copyright expired.
