Interview of R.H. Candy, former Superintendent of the Petawawa Forest Experiment Station, recorded at his home in Victoria, British Columbia, by G.H.D. Bedell as part of a series of interviews with Canadian foresters for the Forest Management Institutes oral history of forestry in Canada. He speaks about such subjects as: his early life, education and career development; his impressions of men and policies in the early years of the Canadian Forestry Service (CFS); logging and river driving on the Petawawa River; camp life at the Petawawa Station; administration in the CFS during the 1930s; relief camps; the National Forestry Program; CFS functions and policy after the Second World War; the future role of the CFS; forest surveys and relations with the provinces; timber sales at Petawawa; sample plots; rate-of-growth surveys; the regeneration survey of Canada; form-class volume tables; aerial photography; the Manitoba pulpwood survey; and a personal message to the Department of the Environment. <1h 21mn>
