This film relates some of the events which took place at the Plowing Match held in Sarnia, Ontario on 17-19 October 1923. The viewer is shown scenes from the town of Sarnia, including streetcars and busy streets, before moving to the grounds of the plowing match. The official opening is performed by His Honour Lieutenant Governor Henry Cockshutt and attended by Mr. J. M. MacAdams, Chairman of the Sarnia Committee; Mr. David Wright, a pioneer of Enniskillen; Mr. J. Lockie Wilson, superintendent of the Agricultural Vegetable Growers and Plowman's Association branch of the Ontario Department of Agriculture; and others. The viewer is then shown the field where farmers are preparing, spectators are gathering and horse-drawn ploughs are at work. The first competition shown is the Lampton County Competition in stubble; Mr. John Hutchison takes first in the senior category and Mr. Edward Tew of Dawn wins the junior. There are shots of tractors ploughing, spectators, including the Lieutenant Governor, watching, the great number of cars in attendance, and the friendly competition between Canadians and Americans. Among many shots of ploughing, neatly furrowed fields and crowds are scenes with Mr. Pay, last years sweepstakes winner; the Honourable George S. Henry, Minister of Public Works; the Honourable John S. Martin, Minister of Agriculture; and, Mr Clarke Young of Milliken, the 1923 winner. One shot exagerates the excitement of a crowd of spectators by using fast-motion photography. At the end of the film, the camera pulls away from the grounds on top of some type of vehicle. <11mn 43s>
