Newsreel footage of four people accused of giving confidential information to the Soviet Union. They are remanded for another appearance at Magistrate's Court in Ottawa, Ontario, where further charges of violating the Official Secrets Act and breach of trust are laid. The footage shows: Nicholas Street, where the accused persons are held; Captain Lunan, former information service official, and Edward Mazerall, an engineer employed by the National Research Council, are brought out to a patrol wagon for transfer to court; another angle of Lunan and Mazerall; Mrs. Emma Woikin, former cipher clerk in the Department of External Affairs code room, and Kathleen Willisher, former deputy registrar in the office of the British High Commissioner; a hatless woman wearing a light coat, appearing on a vagrancy charge, unrelated to this espionage case; another angle of Woikin and Willisher, the latter wearing a black sealskin coat and hat; two shots of the women getting into police car and driving off to police court; patrol wagon with male accused arriving at the police station and court building; three shots of the female accused arriving in car; patrol wagon leaving Magistrate's Court after the accused are remanded and sent back to jail; left to right: Magistrate Glenn Strike and court clerk C.J. The caption sheet says that all of the Canadian newsreels reported this story.~2. Given that the shotlist refers to 400 feet of film, which is longer than the length of this footage, some shots described in the shotlist may not in fact be on this reel.
