Coats of arms which formerly hung in the Public Archives Museum Rooms on Sussex Drive. Each room bore the name of an Archives benefactor: the first was the Northcliffe Room, named after Viscount Northcliffe, english publishing magnate, for whom there are 2 coats of arms; the second was the Grey Room, named after Earl Grey, Governor-General of Canada, 1904-1911; the third was the Minto Room, named after the Earl of Minto, Governor-General of Canada, 1898-1904. Works by an unknown sculptor.
These four coats of arms were commissioned by Arthur Doughty to hang at the entrances of the Public Archives Museum rooms on Sussex Drive, which were named the Grey, Minto and Northcliffe Rooms.
The Museum was in existence from at least 1925 until 1966, when the Museum was dissolved, and the artifacts transferred to the new National Museums Corporation.
These works have never been accessioned, since they were actually part of the fabric of the Public Archives building..
These works were located as of March 17, 1997 in 0330-C026.
