Press conference held by Steven Langdon, New Democratic Party Critic for Economic Development, Trade and Industry, to report on a meeting held by the National Network for Trade Fairness concerning the federal government's approach to free trade with the United States. In his opening statement and during the subsequent question period, Langdon discusses: reasons for the network's concern over the free trade issue; the NDP's position concerning free trade; and the strategy of the network in voicing its opposition to the proposed policy. Langdon notes the broad range of business, labour, farming, women's, environmental and other groups who share the NDP's view that the federal government's methods and aims in promoting free trade must be challenged. Also present at the conference are: Pierette Landry, Conseil des Canadiens; Mike Leger, the Canadian Independent Computer Services Association; Brian Anthony, Executive-Director, Canadian Confederation of the Arts; and Pat Marshak, a sociologist from the University of British Columbia. <30mn>
