Three watercolours entitled "Main Street, Fort Garry looking North, 1870"; "Manitoba, 1871"; "Arrival & Stay at Rochfort [sic]". Work by Jenny Russell Simpson (1847-1936), copies after Ernest J. Hutchins (active 1872-1911) and Peter Rindisbacher(1806-1834).
This is a retrospective accession. The information about it is found in RG 37 "C" Series, Volume 337, file 1925-47 and in the artist file 705-672.
Jenny Russell Simpson was an artist who was sometimes employed as a copyist by the PAC. Her works entitled "Main Street Fort Garry looking North, 1870" and "Manitoba, 1871" may be copies of works by Ernest J. Hutchins, see artist file 705-687. The work entitled "Arrival & Stay at Rochfort" is probably a copy of Peter Rindisbacher's "Arrival and Stay at Rockfort, Sept. 21, 1921" (Acc. No. 1988-250-19, C-001920).
None of these works have been located as of 1997-01-31.
