R. A. (Dick) Rice, one of Canada's radio pioneers. Rice describes his lengthy career in radio, and the duties and he fulfilled over the years. He started in 1916 with the Marconi British Admiralty Wireless Service and served until the end of WWI. In 1922 he opened the Edmonton Journal's radio station CJCA, which he managed for 17 years. In 1934 Rice bought Taylor and Pearson's CFTP and changed the call letters to CFRN. In 1939 he inaugurated Edmonton's first Press Radio Bureau. He was later named Chairman of the Board of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters. In 1954, while Rice was owner and President of Sunwapta Broadcasting Co. Ltd., he founded CFRN-TV. He went in to launch CFRN-FM (later CKXM-FM) in 1965. <45mn>Language:EnglishNotes: -
