NATIONAL PRESS THEATREAccession:1986-0120Media:SoundProduction date:1986-02-06Production company:National Press TheatreDescription:Press conference held by the Hon. Jake Epp, Minister of Health and Welfare Canada, to announce the release of a national study of health attitudes and behaviours of young people. Accompanying the Minister are Dr. Alan J.C. King and Dr. Alan S. Robertson of Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, who conducted the study funded by the National Health Research Development Program. Epp outlines the scope and objectives of the study, which was based on random samples of students from across Canada, and highlights its findings. The high incidence of cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption are among the most disturbing statistics cited. Epp also notes a great variation in the health habits of young people from province to province. In his concluding remarks, Epp confirms the need for environmental and preventative health measures in Canada. <30mn>Subjects:ALCOHOL & YOUTH~CIGARETTE HABIT~HEALTH~HEALTH SURVEYS~PRESS CONFERENCES~PUBLIC HEALTH~YOUTH ~EPP, JAKELanguage:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
