General note:

Bound volume entitled "Hunter's Ottawa Scenery" comprising of 15 prints depicting Ottawa and vicinity 1853-1855.. Nine of the works are by William Stewart Hunter Jr. (1823-1894) and six are by his father, William Stewart Hunter .The works were lithographed by J. H. Bufford in Boston in 1855. Among the lithographers who worked on this volume was Winslow Homer.
This is a retrospective accession. The information about it is found in RG 37 "C" Series, Volume 334, File 1920-59, and in the Artist File 705-51.
The NA has 5 other copies of this volume..
This work was bound together with two other volumes: "Eastern Townships Scenery" (Stanstead, 1860) and "Hunter's Panoramic Guide from Niagara to Quebec" (Boston, 1857). The provenance of these two works has not been determined. On the spine on the new binding "Archives of Canada / P.F. 152 / Hunter's - Ottawa and Eastern Townships". There is a cat. date JFK 18/7/22 and a reference to "VII E, 34-B"..
