Poultry research in genetics, nutrition, physiology, and biochemistry reseach. Reseach studies include various species of chickens; eggs production; abnormalities, breeding, nutrition chickens, X-rays, incubation, pedigreeing, fattening, killing, waxing, marketing poultry products, sorting & tagging, grading & packing, split & cooked; various species of chickens, phesants, pigeons, rabbits; Canadian and international poultry shows exhibits, meetings, conferences in Canada and outside the country; private poultry plants across Canada; World's Poultry Congress, Ottawa, July 27th - August 4th 1927; farm poultry plants across Canada. The Animal Research Centre was established in 1888, when the first poultry manager for Canada was appointed in the newly created (1886) Experimental Farms Branch of the Dominion Department of Agricult branch was established to conduct agricultural research in the various regions of Canada. Livestock and poultry production studies were an integral part of this mandate. By 1912 the work had expanded, parate Animal Husbandry Division headed by a Dominion animal husbandryman was established. In 1913 the Poultry Husbandry Division, with a Dominion poultry husbandryman, was created to oversee and coor l activities in the poultry area, These two divisions remained until their merger in 1958 to form the Animal and Poultry Science Division. Agricultural chemistry and biochemistry research started in t rtment in 1887, when the Chemistry Division was created. In 1959, this division's Animal Chemistry Unit united with the year-old Animal and Poultry Science Division to create the Animal Research inst This organization is still in existence, but its name was changed to the Animal Research Centre (ARC) in 1981. The ARC is a center of expertise for solving high-priority proleblems in animal and poult tion and in developing the advanced production systems necessary to meet future trends in Canadian animal agriculture.
