Posters for First World War Victory Bond Campaigns, primarily for the 1918 and 1919 Victory Bond Campaigns. There are 6 separate issues with English and French versions for items 1-3 and 6, and an English-only version for no. 4, and a French-only version for no. 5. The posters were intended for billboard presentation, and are made up of 12 separate sheets (except for one which is made up of only 4 sheets), numbered in sequence in the lower right corner of each sheet to show how they fit together. It is possible that some of these posters (especially for 1919 Victory Loan campaigns) were never issued. The titles are as follows: Issued as and numbered as 24-1: 1919 Victory Loan Campaign "Come On - Let's Finish The Job!" and in French as "Allons! Finissons La Besogne"; 24-2: 1919 Victory Loan [with Prince of Wales' Flag], issued in French as "1919 Emprunt de la Victoire" [avec le drapeau du Prince de Galles]; 24-3: Victory Loan "To You The Torch...", and in French as "Emprunt de La Victoire -A Vous le Flambeau..."; 24-4: "Our Best Customer, But - he needs credit! [featuring John Bull] (no French version published - 12-part and 4-part versions are included); 24-5: "Emprunt de la Victoire - 1919 Sera Dépensé En entier au Canada"; and an unnumbered poster entitled "Clean Up Debts..." (English) and in French as "Dettes...". Editions 24-1 and 24-4 are signed "F", although the small version of 24-4 is designed by Malcolm Gibson; edition 24-3 is signed by F[Frank Lucien] Nicolet (1887-?).
2 copies of each poster with the exception of the 4-part version of 24-4 have been kept.
The Victory Loan campaigns of the First World War were only generally privately-run and publicized.
The collection was folded and stored in Art storage for several decades without being being accessioned. An additional 5 copies of 24-1 (English) and 2 copies of 24-1 (French); 3 copies of 24-2 (English); 2 copies of 24-2 (French); 3 copies of 24-3 (English); 4 copies of 24-3 (French); 3 copies of 24-4 (English); and 1 copy of24-5 (French) as well as 2 copies of "Clean-Up" and 2 copies of "Dettes" will be disposed of (to another institution?).
