Canadian troops on the Western Front, February 1916. The roll begins with, "Official pictures of the British Army in France taken by permission of the War Office by the British Topical Committee for War Films." "In Action With Our Canadian Troops." "Princess Patricia's Light Infantry on Parade." Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry parade with the standard. "The Flag which was presented by Princess Patricia." The PPLI with the standard presented by the Princess." On the way to the trenches." PPLI march along a road to the trenches. "British lines on the Canadian flank." They enter heading towards "Prowse Point", the shallow, waterlogged trench which forms the junction of the British and Canadian lines. "Entering the Communication trenches." Troops in a trench. "With the 5th Battalion Canadian Infantry from Saskatchewan." "The trenches often cave in owing to the wet, and this necessitates continual repair work." 5th (Saskatchewan) Battalion, 1st Division, repairs its own trenches. . "The mid-day meal." Troops eating, smoking. "Standing to arms - awaiting orders." Soldiers in rain gear with rifles. "A reconnaissance party." A reconnaissance party run past some shattered buildings and water-filled shell-holes. "Sniping from a battered house." One sniper is poised in the ruins of a house's front room. "Sentry watching for movements in the German front lines." Sentry using a periscope. "General view of the Canadian front trenches." Panorama shot of the front trench. "Panoram of the German front line trench - the German lines extend the full length of the avenue of trees. Panorama shot of the German front line. "Bombardment of a farm in the German lines."." Long shots of explosions and a farm building in the distance. "A hill near the Canadian front - Note: Officer ducks as a shrapnel bursts just overhead." An officer (sign post in background reads, Regina: cut off) and some men crouch in a wood close to the enemy, possibly Mont Sorel. "Graves of Canadian Heroes."
