Promotional film on the twin cities of Port Arthur and Fort William in northern Ontario. Scenes show the Port Arthur and Fort William waterfronts and harbours, with some emphasis on grain elevators; the opening of the navigation season; the streets of Port Arthur and Fort William, including panoramic views and shots of an elegant Port Arthur residential neighbourhood; the local shipbuilding industry, including the construction of steam freighters and ice breakers; the employment of vessel building tools; the Fort William Fire Department in action;and city leaders of both municipalities. Outstanding footage includes the ice breaker "James Whalen" during operations; the steam freighters "Fitzgerald" and "A.F. Stewart"; the tug "Bowman"; the Canadian Northern grain elevator; the Prince Arthur Hotel; Mayor John A. Oliver of Prince Arthur posing in medium shot; mechanical shovels and manual labour excavating the site for the Whalen Building; the Western Dry Dock and Ship Building Company, including office headquarters and shipyards; and Fort William mayor, George Graham, and city officials driving through a street lined with people in long shot. <45mn>
