Energy, Mines and Resources Canada, Surveys and Mapping BranchProduction credit:director, Colin Low; producer/editing, Michael McKennirey; photography, Ernest McNabb; sound, Bev Davidson; sound editing, Julian Olson; animation, Sidney Goldsmith; music, Andre VincelliDescription:In this short film about the history of map-making and computer applications in modern cartography, Hull teacher Peter MacLeod demonstrates his hands-on approach to teaching. On field trips, MacLeod and students don period clothing and experiment with antique map-making tools; they tour the Surveys and Mapping branch of Energy, Mines and Resources in Ottawa to find out about digital mapping and observe the Gestalt photomapper. In class, they experiment with stereoscopic viewers and build a styrofoam contour model of an area in the Gatineau Hills. An ideal film to complement geography courses at the secondary level. <27mn 30s>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
