In 1983 Brian Mulroney ran again for Conservative leadership in the Progressive Conservative (PC) leadership review that led to Joe Clark's downfall and Mulroney's election as PC Party leader.~This recording documents CTV Television Network's live news special of the 1983 PC Party Leadership Convention held at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa, Ontario. From the CTV anchor booth overlooking the convention floor at Lansdowne Park, CTV anchors Lloyd Robertson and Bruce Phillips host the news special, providing analysis, commentary and continual updates over the course of the evening. Joining CTV's Jack Webster are former aide to William Davis, Hugh Segal, Senator Keith Davis, Conservative Advisor Eddie Goodman, and former Saskatchewan Attorney General, Roy Romanow. Webster's guests comprise a panel to provide expert opinion advice on the convention and PC candidates.~From the convention floor at Lansdowne Park, CTV reporters Pamela Wallin, Bob Evans, Craig Oliver, Genevieve Westcott, Bob Hurst, Mark Sikstrom, Alan Fryer, [Denis McIntosh], and Dale Archer interview delegates, PC leadership candidates and representatives. The news special highlights speeches by PC leadership candidates including Brian Mulroney, Michael Wilson, John Crosbie, Peter Pocklington, Joe Clark, John Gamble, David Crombie, and Neil Fraser. The individual speeches address issues including national unity, Conservative compassion, the Canadian economy, trade issues, the needs of French Canadians, PC Party unity, unemployment and youth in Canada, and the need for fundamental change within the government.~To conclude the days events and the CTV news special, political pollster Martin Goldfarb is invited to present the results of a survey completed by convention delegates to illustrate issues affecting delegates, the impression of individual candidates, and the general direction in which Canadians will vote.
