Roundup of radio news reports as follows: From Washington, D.C., correspondent James M. Minifie of the New York Herald Tribune reports on the presentation to Congress by President Harry S. Truman of his new budget on this day. Truman urged passage of the legislation to construct the St. Lawrence Seaway. From London, CBC correspondent Matthew Halton reports on British reaction to the news that five British military planes have been shot down over the Egyptian border. He reports that there is widespread indignation in Britain. Bill Beatty of the CBC interviews Isaac Ben-Zvi, one of the founders of the state of Israel and a member of the Israeli Federation of Labor, who has been visiting various labour organizations in North America. He talks about such subjects as living conditions in Israel under the current situation and Israelis serving in the military. From Halifax, Frank Doyle reports on the mild weather there, observing that there are flowers in bloom and golfers were out over the weekend. Earl [McCarron] of radio station CHSJ Saint John reports on the mild weather in Saint John, stating that on the positive side the city saved money on snow removal but o the negative side smelt fishing is experiencing problems because the fishing gear is designed for use on ice-covered waterways, this being the time of year when the smelt run occurs. Other industries are also experiencing problems. The amount of lumber that can be cut may be reduced, bare fields may cause winter kill of crops and the sap running in trees may cause tree damage when the weather goes back to being cold. The final report is by Thom Benson, who interviewed a man named [Conn Augustine] and a friend, Mr. Nelson, who are in Winnipeg, during part of their journey from Swan River, Manitoba to California in a 1910 automobile [Augustine] bought and fixed up.
