Description:

Comedy play incorporating social criticism. Grandpop, a real individual, sits listening to the Metropolitan Opera broadcast with his opera hat on. His daughter ridicules him. He explains to her that she is emotionally undernourished. His insurance pays him an unexpected $1,200, and he plans to go to New York and see the opera, burlesques, and Mrs. August Belmont. The daughter is shocked. Her dream is for a granite tombstone. Her religion has killed her, grandpop explains. He finally gives her his $1,200 cheque for a tombstone ("I pity you $1,200 bucks' worth and more") because her belief in her own goodness has overlaid him again, "But I ain't overlaid for good". <30mn>
