This film explains the impact of the lumbering industry in British Columbia. Lumbering is the chief industry of British Columbia and more than one-third of the Dominion's total annual output of lumber is produced in Canada's Pacific-coast province. In British Columbia, owing to the greater average size of the timber, logging operations differfrom those used elswhere in Canada. The film shows the process of marking and then cutting a tree so that it falls in the proper way. Then cut the felled trees in the desired length and throw them into the water. They are sorted and boomed or made into a raft for transportation to the mills. Timber is transported by railway. Finished lumber is graded and sorted and eitherpiled to dry or shipped in the unseasoned state. Annual production of lumber in British Columbia exceeds 27,500,000,000 feet. The value is $42,000,000. One of the most important features of the British Columbia lumbering industry is the export trade. Annually, many millions of feet of lumber are shipped to other countries. <13mn>
