Radio broadcast about the Treaty of Brussels (also known as the Five Power Pact and the Brussels Conference) with was signed at the des Académies, in Brussels, on March 17, 1948, by Ernest Bevin (Great Britain), Paul-Henri Spaak (Belgium), Georges Bidault (France), Joseph Bech (Luxembourg), and Baron Van Boetzelaar (Netherlands). It was a treaty of collective military aid and economic and social cooperation between the countries of Western Europe, intended to last for fifty-years.~The broadcast includes the final part of a speech by Paul-Henri Spaak.~Georges Bidault says "l'alliance que nous concluons en ce jour solennel, nous a été dictée par la communauté..."~Joseph Bech speaks in French~Baron Van Boetzelaar says "Le Traité régionale concernant l'Europe occidentale marque une date très importante pour l'histoire du royaume des Pay Bas ..."~A commentator sets the scene.~Ernest Bevin speaks: "It is a matter of great pleasure to me to be in Belgium and particularly in Brussels today". He says that the treaty is a natural development arising from the five countries' common experience.~Copies are given to the representatives of the five countries. The commentator gives the main points of the treaty on trade and military cooperation.~This is followed by a recording of Ernest Bevin's speech, without the commentator giving points of the treaty. <45mn>
