Jackson, longtime president of the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers union (UE), and Ben Swankey, union organizer, about the history of the UE in the 1960s and 1970s. In particular, this discussion includes the political issues persued by the UE such as the need for universal health insurance, an "all-Canadian" St. Lawrence Seaway, anti-nuclear testing, less domination of the Canadian economy by the United States, and the UE trade union delegation to China. Also discussed is the UE struggle with the General Electric, Westinghouse and Atlas Steel companies. Focusing on the 1970s, Jackson and Swankey discuss the UE's opposition to the War Measures Act, the many plant closures resulting in layoffs for UE workers, and the UE's opposition to "Nixonomics" regarding the gold standard.Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
