A variety program for the entertainment of Canada's soldiers serving overseas designed to officially open CBC's International Service: CANADA CALLING.~Introduction by William Lyon Mackenzie King; "This evening marks the formal opening of Canada's International broadcasting service...tonight Canada enters the world radio arena....in the unity of mankind lies the one sure foundation of enduring peace".~Introduction in French by Louis St. Laurent, Minister of Justice.~Remarks from London by the Chairman of the CBC Board of Governors, Howard B. Chase.~From Toronto, the CBC chorus and orchestra, under the direction of Percy Faith, performs "On Our Way" by Rogers and Hammerstein.~From Winnipeg comes "The Red River Barn Dance" with several typical pieces of country music, patter and clowning.~From Toronto, Mart Kenney and His Western Gentlemen; the trio "Three of a Kind"; male vocalist, Art Hallman; female vocalist, Norma Locke; and the quartet perform..~From Toronto, baritone, John Sturgess and the CBC Chorus and Orchestra perform Victor Herbert's "Thine Alone".~From Montreal, vocalist, Alys Robi with Don Miguel's Orchestra perform selections typical of the program, LATIN AMERICAN SERENADE.~From Montreal, singer Anna Malenfant, performs the folksong, "Dans Paris y'a t'une brune.~From Charlottetown comes selections of the music of Don Messer and his Islanders.~From Toronto, comedian, Alan Young performs the skit "First Day in the Life of a Soldier".~From Vancouver, Percy Harvey and the Golden Strings and vocalist, Ann Watt performs selections typical of the program, MUSIC FROM THE PACIFIC.~From Montreal, The Alouette Quartet sings "Meunier tu dors"; and "À Saint-Malo beau port de mer".~From Toronto, John Sturgess, with the CBC Chorus and Orchestra performed "Without a Song" and "There's Going to Be a Great Day".~Finally an announcer's message outline service hours, metre band, etc. of CANADA CALLING.
