Television documentary filmed in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Minnesota and North Dakota. It examines the effects of encroaching farmland, water pollution and hunters on prairie marshland. The marshes are the nesting grounds of most of the continent's waterfowl. Reminiscing about his boyhood on the prairies, Thom Benson recalls the beauty of the marshes and the waterfowl as he knew them. H. Albert Hochbaum, Director of the Delta Waterfowl Research Station near Portage la Prairie, discusses the threatened resources of the marshes. Included are comments from farmers expressing different views on waterfowl conservation. Among the interviewees are: Bert Phair, a Manitoba outdoorsman who was one of a small group responsible for introducing the Hungarian Partridge to Canada; Grady Mann of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Fergus Falls, Minnesota; Eldon Rost, county agricultural agent for Alexandria, Minnesota; Rod Ducharme, a guide in Manitoba; and several prairie farmers who have marshes on their land.
