A history of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation (OEEC).~Footage shows: nuclear reactor; steel being poured in smelter; overhead crane moving lengths of pipe; mining; train speeding past; ship launched; map of Europe; airforce planes flying over Europe during WWII dropping loads of bombs; explosions; smoking remains of buildings; rubble in Germany after bombing raids; refugees climbing from train; remains of buildings; OEEC meeting place; delegates at meeting from Turkey, France, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Greece; people walking on streets; apartment buildings; OEEC plaque in honour of General George Marshall; clip of General Marshall saying America has offered to aid in a substantial way all the free, peace-loving countries of Europe that are willing to cooperate among themselves in a broad program of economic reconstruction and the United States has the will and the productive capacity to make good on its commitments in this program of reconstruction; bags of goods unloading from ship; vehicles unloading from ship; harbour; Marshall who says, "but the success of the program in providing peace and work will depend on the effective cooperation of the participating countries"; shipping; traffic in front of Buckingham Palace; delegates at unidentified meeting to sign treaty; masses of people rushing to get food donated under Marshall Plan; people filling bags with donated coal; bricks being passed hand to hand; building toppled; people assisting in tearing down war-damaged buildings and reclaiming bricks for reuse; unidentified troops running and firing weapons; troops in marchpast; bicycle traffic in streets; Germans and Frech rowing across Rhine River to befriend each other again; street scenes; activity at construction site; cars on assembly line; traffic; rows of combines cutting way through field; trucks driving through border crossings; train speeding along tracks; ships being loaded and unloaded in busy harbour; parking lot full of new cars; office towers in London; and electric generating stations.~Footage continues with: activity in busy railyard; underground mining; large industrial plants; activity in steel plant; workers walking from plant at end of shift; large Defaka department store; people walking about in busy German city; people in stores; people walking from a factory at the end of the day; modern-looking church; newly constructed buildings; government ministers walking to and from meetings; ministers at trade meeting with delegates from Spain, Canada, and the United States); a child; new apartment buildings; and a map of Europe with the names of OEEC members scrolling past. <10mn 13s>
